At Mount Sinai, God showed the Israelites the way of life. Whoever walks in this way maintains a restored relationship with God and others. However it is necessary to be faithful. Unfortunately human beings fall into sin again and again. In response, God provided sacrifices as the means to restore this relationship. Through sacrifice, a person can be freed from sin and come into God’s presence again.
The following ideas lie behind sacrifice:
Blameless in my stead.
Sinful in my stead.
The penalty of death in my stead.
A life sacrificed in my stead.
But the sacrifices of that time were insufficient. A Perfect Sacrifice was needed.
Isa al-Masih is this Perfect Sacrifice.
Because of the nature of this Sacrifice, we have the assurance that our relationship is restored completely.
